Why Keystone?
In architecture, a keystone is the central stone at the summit, or apex, of an arch. It is the final piece placed during an arch’s construction, and allows the arch to bear weight, locking the whole of the arch together. Without the right Keystone, an arch would simply collapse. Here at Keystone, we pride ourselves on empowering people, through meaningful outdoor experiences and teaching, to become Keystone figures in the outdoors; people who can support themselves, and others, to get out and enjoy the mountains.
Our Story
The Founder - Conor Watt
Growing up in Solihull (West Midlands) meant Conor wasn’t particularly close to the mountains, and a career in the outdoors wasn’t always on the cards.
Conor went to the University of Warwick, where he thought he would go on to a career in investment banking or management consulting. However, the more time he spent at university, the more he realised that wasn’t the career path for him. After graduating, with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), Conor travelled extensively throughout India and Central America; eventually returning to the UK to begin working as a trainee instructor, at an outdoor centre in North Wales.
Years later, Conor still lives in North Wales, in Bethesda, and works full time in the outdoor industry. Conor is a qualified Mountain Leader, Rock Climbing Instructor and Paddlesport Leader. In addition to his qualifications, Conor prides himself on his love for Eryri, and enjoys sharing stories on flora, fauna, culture, history and geology.
